The Yemeni Ministry of Interior announced the arrest and dismantling of cells affiliated with the Houthi militia during September, which were planning to carry out operations targeting security and military leaders and vital facilities in the temporary capital Aden and the governorates of Lahij and Abyan, in addition to military reinforcements and supply lines.

The Yemeni Interior Minister, Major General Ibrahim Haidan, stated during a press conference in Aden today (Monday) that the security forces thwarted plans to incite chaos and destabilize the liberated governorates, emphasizing that protecting the internal front is an essential part of the “Dawn of Yemen” operation.

A network of 18 members in Lahij

The ministry revealed the dismantling of a network consisting of 18 members in Lahij governorate on September 26, which it said had been receiving specialized training in monitoring, detonating, and planting explosive devices, under the supervision of Houthi leaders.

According to the ministry, the network was divided into two groups; the first for monitoring and observing security and military leaders and convoys heading to the battlefronts, and the second for carrying out explosions and targeting officials and supply lines. It noted that the network members received training in areas controlled by the Houthis, including Saada, Dhamar, and Al-Houban in Taiz.

In Aden, security forces arrested one of the suspects in Dar Saad district, who was found in possession of explosive devices, while investigations led to the discovery of other explosives and potential targets for attacks, according to the ministry.

The authorities announced the arrest of a women’s cell in Lahij on September 22, which was said to be tasked with monitoring, tracking, and recruitment, in addition to the arrest of a two-person cell in Loder district in Abyan governorate at the beginning of the same month.

Warnings of new plots

The Ministry of Interior accused the Houthis of seeking assistance from experts from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Hezbollah in training the cell members, accusations that were mentioned by the ministry during the press conference.

For his part, Aden Governor Abdulrahman Sheikh reviewed the security and humanitarian measures taken to address the wave of displacement, noting the establishment of about 800 tents that received nearly 7,000 displaced persons over a period of half a month. The Yemeni authorities called for enhanced coordination and security vigilance, confirming that the accused have been referred to the relevant judicial authorities after completing investigations and gathering evidence.
