S&P Global has affirmed the sovereign credit rating of the United Kingdom at (AA/A-1+), maintaining a stable outlook, citing the British economy’s ability to withstand the energy shock resulting from the conflict in the Middle East.

The agency stated that rising fuel prices are impacting inflation, expecting the Bank of England to raise the main interest rate by 25 basis points in late 2026.

It added that oil and gas prices, along with other production inputs related to the conflict, such as fertilizers, are putting pressure on inflation and influencing the trajectory of interest rates, noting that the stable outlook reflects its expectations for the continued ability of the British economy to cope with the energy shock.

It pointed out that the Labour Party holds a parliamentary majority that is likely, barring any unforeseen events, to keep it in power until the next general election scheduled for 2029.

It warned of the need to balance spending plans with limited revenues, indicating that excessively high tax burdens could constrain GDP growth.
