The Mexican city of Tijuana witnessed a horrific incident when police found a human head inside a plastic bag in front of a restaurant, along with a threatening message signed by “Cabo 50,” in an event that has once again highlighted the violence of organized crime in the border city.
The incident occurred last Thursday evening in the Nueva Tijuana neighborhood when a woman reported to a police patrol about a suspicious bag and a sign bearing a threat in front of the “Tortas Tony” restaurant located at the intersection of Josefinas Rendon Para and Boulevard Bellas Artes.
According to the Mexican website “Zeta Tijuana,” police arrived at the scene around 6:09 PM local time and found a blue bag containing a human head, along with a white sign hanging on the restaurant’s fence.
The sign read, “Welcome to Tijuana,” signed by “Cabo 50,” while authorities began securing the site and calling in the relevant agencies to process the crime scene and start an investigation.
Authorities have not yet announced the identity of the person whose head was found, nor have they disclosed the circumstances of the murder or the location where the original crime took place.
Local sources reported that the incident was preceded by another occurrence inside the restaurant just hours earlier, where three men arrived around 3 PM and demanded that the staff pay 10,000 Mexican pesos.
According to the account relayed by local media, restaurant officials denied knowing the reason for the financial demand before they took refuge inside a house, while authorities have not yet confirmed a direct connection between this incident and the discovery of the head and the message.
Authorities are also investigating the nature of the message and the party behind it, and whether the restaurant was directly targeted or if the location was merely used to dispose of crime remnants and deliver a threatening message.
The name “Cabo 50” refers to Israel Alejandro Vasquez, according to reports from the Tijuana Security Council, which links him to a criminal cell associated with brothers Alfonso and Rene Arzate. However, the signing of the message with this name does not alone prove the responsibility of the individual or group for the incident, which will be determined by official investigations.
This incident comes in one of the most crime-afflicted cities in Mexico, as Tijuana is located in Baja California on the border with the United States and is considered one of the main centers for trade, tourism, and immigration between the two countries.
The city has faced repeated waves of murders related to the conflict between criminal groups over territories and drug trafficking routes, as well as extortion and armed violence.
According to security data reported by local media, Tijuana recorded 695 homicides since the beginning of 2026 until the time of the report’s publication, indicating the ongoing security pressures faced by the city.
