The donors who provided their clothes, devices, and food for humanitarian aid never imagined that their charitable journey would take a completely different path. The security agencies in the State of Kuwait revealed an organized network that used a charitable project as a cover to collect in-kind donations and turn them into a commercial commodity that generates huge profits away from the eyes of oversight.

The threads of the case began to unravel following intensive investigations conducted by the Criminal Security Sector represented by the General Department of Criminal Investigations in Kuwait, which proved the involvement of five suspects from two Arab nationalities in exploiting a charitable project to collect donations. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior clarified that one of the association’s employees was receiving in-kind materials such as furniture, devices, and food items without the knowledge of the association’s management, enlisting several representatives to collect these items and misleading the donors into believing that they would reach the deserving.

However, the reality was different, as the network sold these donations in local markets or re-exported them abroad, turning the intentions of charity and generosity into a purely commercial source of income.

But the shocking surprise revealed by the investigations was the enormous financial returns that the network was generating, estimated at about 60,000 Kuwaiti dinars monthly. Field security investigations led to the identification of a main storage location belonging to the project in the “Amghara” area, where the seized items were found, and the illegal schemes of the suspects were exposed.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior confirmed that all necessary legal actions were taken against the suspects and that they were referred to the relevant authorities, in a case that highlights the importance of strict oversight to protect charitable and humanitarian work from any abusive exploitation.
