توفّي 194 طفلًا في بنغلاديش, التي تشهد أسوأ تفش للحصبة في جنوب آسيا منذ عقود.
وأفادت السلطات الصحية المحلية اليوم أن ما بين ثلاثة إلى خمسة أطفال توفوا يوميًا جراء هذا المرض خلال الأسبوع الماضي، مشيرة إلى وفاة ثلاثة أطفال في العاصمة دكا الأربعاء, وطفلين آخرين اليوم، مضيفة أن إجمالي عدد الحالات تجاوز 28 ألف حالة.
وكانت الحكومة قد أطلقت برنامجًا طارئًا لتطعيم 18 مليون طفل في 15 مارس في محاولة لاحتواء تفشي المرض.
وتصنف منظمة الصحة العالمية الحصبة أحد أكثر الأمراض المعدية، إذ تسببت في 95 ألف حالة وفاة سنويًا, معظمها بين الأطفال غير المطعمين دون سن الخامسة.
194 children have died in Bangladesh, which is experiencing the worst outbreak of measles in South Asia in decades.
Local health authorities reported today that between three to five children died daily from this disease over the past week, noting the death of three children in the capital Dhaka on Wednesday, and two more today, adding that the total number of cases has exceeded 28,000.
The government had launched an emergency vaccination program for 18 million children on March 15 in an attempt to contain the outbreak.
The World Health Organization classifies measles as one of the most contagious diseases, causing 95,000 deaths annually, most of them among unvaccinated children under the age of five.
