All eyes are on the second Gulf-European summit scheduled to be held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on October 24, amid expectations of announcing important and decisive steps that will finally resolve the “Schengen” visa issue. In this context, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem Al-Budaiwi, revealed a positive surprise during a press statement, confirming that visa-free travel is very close for citizens of Gulf countries.

Al-Budaiwi explained that the member states are on the verge of starting actual exemption procedures, expressing his great hopes that the upcoming summit will witness an official announcement carrying good and tangible news that strengthens the bonds of partnership and rapprochement between the Gulf and European sides.

It is worth noting that the United Arab Emirates is currently the only Gulf country whose citizens enjoy the privilege of free travel to the “Schengen” area for short stays, while the efforts of the other member states have been diligently successful in facilitating the movement of all travelers.
